Experiences
Throughout Yousra's undergraduate career, she had the opportunities to learn, grow, and make memories that she will always carry with her. From cleaning up Miami beaches to visiting our nation's capital and advocating for inclusivity in tech policy, Yousra has built relationships that have changed her for the better. These initiatives have helped her pursue her passion for sustainability and international development.
Alternative Breaks

As a Co-Director for Alternative Breaks, and former Education Coordinator, Yousra had the opportunity to work alongside some amazing change-makers. She conducted training sessions on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, Time-Management, Conflict Resolution, and Leadership. Among other initiatives, the Steering Committee members volunteered at local Miami Beaches and the Global Empowerment mission to assist refugees from Ukraine.

FIU In DC Fly-In Series

In October of 2021, Yousra spent 3 action-packed days in Washington DC discussing inclusive workforce development policies for the tech sector with the Chief Information Officer of the U.S. Department of State, the Director of Emerging Technologies at Cato Institute, and at the policy shops of tech giants Amazon and Google. In groups, she ideated policy solutions that were discussed with two Congressional offices and submitted to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
Research Intern

Yousra has been a Research Intern for FIU'S Public Policy and Administration department for over a year now. With a diverse group of dedicated researchers, organized by her mentor Dr. Nicki Fraser, she is currently researching and writing a manuscript regarding the 4 E's of Good Governance and what it means to Generation Z. She has presented at multiple conferences such as the Southeastern Conference of Public Administration and FIU's Undergraduate Research Fair.
Carnegie Endowment for International Peace/Capstone
Africa Program Intern
As a CEIP Intern, Yousra had the opportunity to work with some profound scholars. She collaborated with different scholars to produce policy memos, weekly policy updates, and literature reviews, among other projects. These pieces focused on connectivity in Africa and the upcoming democratic elections in the region. A memorable moment for Yousra was a trip to attend an event that she had been working on in person. Yousra had been assisting the Africa Program in facilitating an event regarding Africa's post-pandemic Economic recovery with the Finance Ministers of Ghana and Nigeria as guest speakers. Yousra's hard work had paid off when Carnegie offered a fully paid trip to DC to personally attend the event.
